Letter from the Chair of Governors – Margaret Martin

Dear Whitesheet Families,

Firstly, I would like to thank you all for your support over the past year. It is a profound gesture of trust to send your children to our school; we never take this for granted and do all we can to support the staff in caring for your children. This has been a good year for the School, not least for the support we have received from our families. Thank you everyone!

My main point in writing is to tell you that we have made an excellent teacher appointment for KS2. We had a strong field of applicants but, Mrs Jenny Bendell was outstanding for us. She lives locally and is a very experienced teacher, working as a Senior Teacher in a small church school in Henstridge. Mrs Bendell deputises for her Head when she is absent and has considerable experience in leading Science in the curriculum; she will continue to take the lead in Science at Whitesheet. Mrs Bendell will bring substantial experience of teaching at KS1 and KS2 and she made a major contribution to improving the performance of her school when recently inspected by Ofsted. I am sure she will bring strength, stability and consistency to the teaching of children in KS2. We are very much looking forward to her joining us in September. Meanwhile, there will be several opportunities for you to meet Mrs Bendell this term as she will be in school working with our Headteacher Mrs Higgins and she plans to join us at some of our festive events in this summer term.

I am also delighted to celebrate with you the continued improvement this year in our KS1 SATS results and particularly for an outstanding performance in phonics. I would like to thank Mrs Edmed and her team for all their hard work with the younger children.   The drive for constant improvement is of course led and managed by our Headteacher Mrs Higgins. She works tirelessly to secure the learning of all our children and is herself a model practitioner in the classroom.

The Governors are delighted with the progress being made and we will do all we can to help our Whitesheet children achieve their full potential and enjoy their time in primary school. Having fun at school is one key to success and the happiness of your children in school is very evident to me.

Should you ever wish to contact me about any matter, the School Office will give me your contact details and I will be in touch.

Meanwhile, I do hope you have an enjoyable summer term and summer holiday. We are looking forward to welcoming new children in September and, of course, to welcoming those returning to us.

Thank you again for your interest and support.

Yours sincerely,

Margaret Martin
